Medical Center Volunteers

Main Lobby Information Desk

  • Provide general information
  • Greet patients and guests as they enter our facility
  • Assist visitors with location of patient
  • Guide, direct or escort guests as necessary
  • Provide reading material, rounding and other comfort measures to those waiting in lobby and waiting areas.
  • Round-up wheelchairs

Medical-Surgical Unit

  • Interact with patients in positive ways:
    • Read to the patient or write a letter
    • Provide light conversation
    • Be there
  • Perform hourly rounding with patients
  • Provide warm, moist washcloths to freshen-up
  • Provide reading material to patients and guests
  • Provide toys to pediatric patients
  • Assist staff with clerical needs when needed

Emergency Department

  • Make patients and their family members feel welcome and comfortable.
  • Assist in explaining visitor policy to visitors as necessary.
  • Transmit messages from visitors to patients in the area and relay messages from patients to visitors
  • Direct or escort visitors to appropriate area when permission to visit is granted.
  • Keep waiting area neat and clean
  • Perform hourly rounding with patients
  • Round-up wheelchairs

Birthing Center Post-Partum Volunteer

  • Be sensitive to post-partum Birthing Center patients and their family and friends
  • Perform various clerical tasks when needed
  • Provide warm, moist washcloths to freshen-up

Espresso Bar

  • Volunteers provide 100% of the staffing for the espresso
  • Be at least 15-years-old
  • Make delicious espresso beverages with Quality & Consistency
  • Provide courteous customer service in a food service environment
  • Exhibit good personal hygiene and food service practices.
  • Operate a cash register and handle cash accurately

Gift Shop

  • Volunteers provide 100% of the staffing for the gift shop
  • Provide courteous customer service in a retail environment.
  • Assist customer in choosing appropriate gift.
  • Operate cash register and handle cash accurately

ICU Family Liaison Volunteer

  • Interact with patients in positive ways:
    • Read to the patient or write a letter
    • Provide light conversation
    • Be there
  • Be sensitive to ICU patients and their family and friends
  • Assist to explain visitor policy to guests as necessary
  • Greet, escort, and/or direct patients within the facility
  • Be a liaison between ICU staff and family
  • Assemble various packets and charts, as necessary
  • Provide warm, moist washcloths to freshen-up

Mat-Su Regional Outpatient Center

  • Outpatient lobby in Wasilla Campus at Lakeview entrance
  • Greet, escort, and/or direct patients within the facility
  • Assist Admitting representative with flow of traffic
  • Provide staff, patients, and guests with general information and assistance
  • Provide toys to pediatric patients

Community Events Volunteer

  • Assist with hospital-sponsored community events
    • Mat-Su Regional Baby Fair - April
    • Today's Women Show - April
    • Alaska State Fair - August
    • Book Fairs - September
    • Mat-Su Regional Women's Fair - October
    • Health and Wellness Expo - October
    • Mat-Su Sportsman's Show - March
    • Other events as planned and needed

Menu's

  • Work with Dietitian personnel in our kitchen
  • Pass out menus to all in-house patients
  • Pick up menus when completed and return them to Dietitian staff
  • Assist patients with filling out menus if assistance is needed
    • This is a 7 days a week task
