Frequently Asked Questions

Hours and Locations

The laboratory at MSRMC is staffed 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. The staff serves patients from the Emergency Department as well as every hospital unit and outpatient area.

The laboratory at MSROC is staffed 7 days a week. The phlebotomy (specimen collection) station is open Monday through Friday 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. This laboratory serves the general outpatient population and the Urgent Care Center.

Physician Involvement

Laboratory tests require an order from your physician or other healthcare provider. You may either bring the order with you when you visit our lab or your provider may fax the order to 861-6655 or 352-2827. The faxed order will be placed into an electronic data base so that it can be retrieved at either MSRMC or MSROC laboratory when you arrive.

Patients with standing (recurrent) orders may call ahead to register by phone to expedite their visit to the phlebotomy station. If interested, please ask the phlebotomist about this service on your next visit.

General Information

The laboratories at Mat Su Regional Medical Center (MSRMC) and Mat Su Regional Outpatient Center (MSROC) are staffed with phlebotomists, Medical Laboratory Technicians and Medical Technologists. These are highly trained professionals who collect and process laboratory specimens. The technicians and technologists perform diagnostic testing on blood and other body fluids such as cell counts, microscopic examination, chemical analysis, coagulation studies and cultures. The laboratory also has a very busy transfusion service, preparing more than 2200 units of blood components for transfusion each year.

Blood components are obtained from the Blood Bank of Alaska in Anchorage. All blood units are extensively tested for infectious diseases and blood borne pathogens.

Pathology services are provided to MSRMC by Dr. Thomas Mezzetti at Cellnetix Pathology and Laboratories. Dr. Mezzetti is also the Medical Director of the Laboratory.
