Cardiac Cath Lab Procedures
Left heart catheterization
Left heart catheterization is the passage of a catheter (a thin flexible tube) into the left side of the heart. The procedure may be performed to obtain diagnostic information about the left side of the heart or to treat certain types of heart conditions. The procedure can also be used to determine pressure and blood flow in the heart's chambers and collect blood samples from the heart.
Right heart catheterization
Right heart catheterization is the passing of a thin tube (catheter) into the right side of the heart. The procedure is done to see blood movement through the heart and to monitor the heart's function.
Coronary angiograms
A coronary angiogram is a special X-ray test. It’s done to find out if your coronary arteries are clogged, where and by how much.
Balloon angioplasty (Elective & Emergent)
Technique performed by threading a slender balloon-tipped tube – a catheter – from an artery in the groin to a trouble spot in an artery of the heart.
Coronary Stents (Selective & Emergent)
A stent is a wire metal mesh tube used to prop open an artery during angioplasty.
Coronary Intravascular Ultrasound (IVUS)
Intravascular ultrasound (IVUS) allows physicians to see images inside the heart and coronary arteries, to assist with diagnosis. The primary benefit of IVUS is that it offers a tomographic, 360-degree view of the arterial wall from the inside, allowing a more complete and accurate assessment than is possible with angiography.
Intra-Aortic Balloon Pump
(IABP)Intra-aortic balloon pump therapy helps restore the balance between the supply of oxygen-rich blood the heart receives from the coronary arteries, and the amount of oxygen the heart needs to pump.
Permanent Pacemakers
Pacemakers are electronic devices that may stimulate either the upper chambers of the heart the lower chambers or both.
Cardioversion
Cardioversion is a method to restore a rapid heart beat back to normal.
TEE(Transesophogeal Echocardiogram)
An echocardiogram is a procedure used to assess the heart's function and structures.
Tilt-Table Test
The tilt-table test is designed to detect one of the most common causes of fainting, postural hypotension
